Now that you all know the big news I have to start at the beginning

Me in 2010 vs me in 2012. This has taken lots of bravery for me to show my "chubby picture" but now that I'm back to a healthy weight I have the guts! Funny how 20 lbs can make such a difference on someone. Especially someone with a small frame

It all basically started in spring of 2010. I was feeling overly tired and low on energy which was not like me at all. So I went to see my Dr.  Knowing that my mother has hypothyroid, they decided to give me a blood test. Sure enough that's what they diagnosed and gave me thyroid medicine. At first it helped a lot. But after a couple months it got worse. So they upped my dose and I was fine again. But only for another few months until it got worse. At this point I weighed close to 100lbs.

It was in September/October that same year that I began feeling my worst. I started gaining weight I couldn't keep off no matter how healthy I ate or how often I exercised. I reached my all time high of 130lbs. Ugh.  I was always exhausted and had body aches. (Which my new Dr would later diagnose as fibromyalgia). Even my cycles began to be irregular.

But the worst was how much I began to sleep. I needed at least 10 hours of sleep a night. I would wake up and go to work for about five hours, come home and sleep until dinner, then go right back to bed til the next morning. I was averaging 16-18 hrs of sleep a day. I was too tired to do anything and I no longer felt like myself.

With all of these physical side effects there were emotional side effects as well. Obviously being discouraged, depressed, and the tension and stress it was causing in my new marriage (sept 2010). I struggled and struggled trying new doses etc until We ended up moving to st George Utah in spring 2012.

Upon moving, things got a little bit better because I went gluten free and had a more flexible work schedule that allowed me to take naps. And while gluten free helped me to get down to 122lbs. I still wasn't feeling any better. Which was more important than the weight loss  so we started looking for a new dr. At this time I was experiencing night sweats and fevers almost every night, extreme fatigue, head aches, mood swings and body aches. I was even falling asleep standing up in public places. Which was not only embarassing and completely inconvenient, but probably quite dangerous considering I could have been driving or something. After having so many unsuccessful attempts and no relief, I was about ready to give up.

Then we met Dr. Swindlehurst and decided to give him a try. We were hesitant to try anything but we were hopeful. After a few tests and whatnot we were ready to get started. Within the first week I lost 5lbs (which is a miracle in and of itself) and I began feeling better.

It had now been 4 months and I am doing so much better. My body aches have been cut in half. My night sweats and fevers are non existent and I am back down to a healthy weight of 110lbs. I was able to get off my allergy meds (which i have been taking my entire life) my headaches are few, and I was able to kick the habit of diet coke. I have two more months in the program. It hasn't been easy and I've still got a long way to go but the results have been worth it!

I recently went up to Salk Lake City to be on The Daily Dish and share my story, click below to watch!!

  1. Oh, Sarah!
I am so happy for you. You look amazing and I love the new blog design!!

  2. you look amazing! but what's even better is that you feel good too!

  3. You are such a sweetheart :) I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through all that and are still going through stuff. But YAY, I am glad to hear that you are getting better and feeling better! How wonderful that you have found a doctor that seems to be helping you! Isn't it sad that the world we live in makes us feel insecure about posting a chubby pic of ourselves, that we all have to fit a "skinny" mold of some sort! I am not as skinny as I used to be when we first got married, so being comfortable in my skin has taken some getting used to and realizing that when my husband tells me I am beautiful then I need to know that through his eyes I am :) I saw some pics of you on Gentri Lee's blog, and holy cow, you looked AMAZING!! Even in your "chubby picture" you are beautiful as well! :) Hope all continues to go well for you with healing and feeling better!
